15th ISHEN Symposium

The 15th ISHEN symposium is now over.

There were 149 participants from 17 nations.
42 speakers and chairs were invited with full board bursaries.
We received 67 abstracts: 23 were accepted for oral presentation, 32 were granted a young investigator bursary, and the remaining abstracts were accepted for poster presentation. The top three posters were awarded a prize as were the two best oral presentations.

According to all comments, the symposium was a solid success as regards scientific programme and exchange and social life. The meeting lead to clarification and progress of several issues relating to the pathogenesis, treatment, and terminology of hepatic encephalopathy, and to establishment of new research contacts and agreements. This, eventually, will be of benefit to the patients suffering from this devastating brain malfunction, and to their caregivers and the health care system.

This was only possible because of the generous and loyal alliance with our sponsors. The meeting programme with abstracts of all the presentations and posters can be viewed via the homepage www.ISHEN.org. The sponsors are listed on the front inside cover page. We much appreciated to welcome those sponsor representatives who took part in the meeting, and we hope that their presence was fruitful.

I take the opportunity to express the hope that this successful collaboration can continue.

The next and 16th ISHEN symposium will be in 2014 in London with professor Rajiv Jalan as president and organizer.

Yours sincerely
