ESGI (European Study Group with Industry) is Europe's leading workshop bringing together mathematicians and industrial companies. These week-long workshops have been held annually since 1968 and were previously known as the Oxford Study Groups with Industry, where they attracted leading mathematicians to work on industrial problems. In Denmark these workshops are conducted alternately at DTU and SDU.
Companies submit mathematical problems for the study group to solve; often in the form of a modelling or an optimization problem. Participants work in groups on each problem, presenting the results of their efforts to industry at the end of the week. A written report on each problem is drawn up and presented to the companies.
This year, ESGI will be hosted by SDU from August 19th - 23rd 2019. The week prior to ESGI there will be a PhD school from August 15th - 17th 2019.
The venue for the PhD School and the ESGI is Gråsten Landbrugsskole, close to the town of Gråsten and only 15 minutes drive from Sønderborg.
